Very interesting --- well, the last ten minutes or so were most interesting to me. Concluding that may be tiny strokes that cause dementia, etc. Also info on blood pressure and impact.

That was interesting. My understanding has been that vascular dementia (the micro-infarcts referenced in the piece) and Alzheimer's Disease are considered two different forms of dementia. My mother was told by a neurologist that she has both, so it would be interesting to know if further research determines they are part of the same disease process.Jmac wrote:Very interesting --- well, the last ten minutes or so were most interesting to me. I was surprised by the statement that individuals who develop high blood pressure in their 80s and 90s are protected from dementia, while those with normal blood pressure late in life are not. Wow.

I wasn't overly thrilled about that one as I have always had great blood pressure numbers, leaning toward the low end. My mom has Alzheimer's or some cognitive things happening --- she has good blood pressure. I'm going to add another Google alert on the topic, watch.xactly wrote:I was surprised by the statement that individuals who develop high blood pressure in their 80s and 90s are protected from dementia, while those with normal blood pressure late in life are not.
