She has lots of AB plaque, but little Tau, and no signs of AD - could lead to drug treatment at some point. The woman’s mutation is in an area of the APOE gene that binds with a sugar-protein compound called heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPG), which is involved in spreading tau in Alzheimer’s disease.

Very interesting. I just read the article in NY Times too. High accumulation of plaque with no cognitive problems. Lots of potential for progress In the area of treatment with this info on the benefits of having the Christchurch mutation.mike wrote:https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/heal ... e=Homepage

I cannot read The NY Times article. Is there a source paper cited in it?

She had LOTS of AB plaque, and yet no cognitive decline. This should put to rest that AB plaque is causing AD. Tau maybe.

I saw this as well, very interesting finding. It was published in Nature Medicine which would indicate that the experts think this is very high impact research. This will be interesting to follow. And yes, another nail in the coffin of the amyloid hypothesis - how many nails does it take to seal a coffin, because this is like 20+?

Oh, and here's an article about this research that is accessible without a fee:
